Wheatley’s fuel advisors help customers save £625k in a year

Wheatley Group is urging customers worried about rising energy bills to get in touch.

Wheatley fuel advisors can help tenants with their bills

Fuel advisors at Scotland’s leading housing, care and property-management group can help struggling customers with their gas and electricity bills.

Advisors help customers set up low-cost payments and, depending on circumstances, work with energy companies to write-off long-term debt.

The service helped almost 5300 customers of Wheatley – which includes Dunedin Canmore, WLHP, Loretto, GHA, DGHP and Lowther – save £625,000 in the past year.

Dunedin Canmore tenant Daniel Blackey, 26, from Pilton in Edinburgh, is delighted with the service.

He said: “My fuel advisor James has been really good to me. He advised me about the choosing the best supplier and helped me save money by getting the best deal.

“I have Asperger’s syndrome and sometimes it can be hard to speak to people, but James made it so easy. He really helped my confidence and my understanding. He’s more like a friend. I’m really happy with the support.

“People who need help with their bills shouldn’t struggle on their own. Dunedin Canmore fuel advisors really know their stuff. Get in touch if you need help.”

Fuel bills are rising for millions of households across the UK – with further significant increases expected next year.

Olga Clayton, Wheatley’s Director of Housing and Care, added: “Fuel poverty is a real concern for our tenants, despite our best efforts to help them reduce bills and keep their homes warm.

“Our fuel advisors offer practical help and guidance to save on energy bills and use energy more efficiently, and can also help customers set up low-cost payments.

“The fuel advice team is just one of a wide range of support services we have available for tenants who are worried about money, putting food on the table or getting out of debt.”

Tenants who wish to book an online or phone appointment with a fuel advisor should talk to their housing officer or letting agent.
