Sheltered Housing
Dunedin Canmore has seven sheltered housing schemes for people over 60. Our sheltered housing schemes are made up of individual flats with their own front door, with extra amenities or services as detailed below:
-
Sheltered Housing Manager service
-
Out of hours alarm service
-
Lift to all floors
-
Use of a common lounge
-
Communal Laundry
-
Guest bedroom for visiting relatives (please refer to individual scheme for details as not all of them have this facility)
The aim of sheltered housing is for older people to live as independently as possible with the comfort of knowing that there is a sheltered housing manager on site for any emergencies, advice and support. The extra services are paid for by a service charge, which is Housing Benefit eligible and by a Supporting People charge (not payable by those on low incomes). Personal care or meals are not provided, however this can be arranged through social work.
The sheltered housing manager service is inspected and regulated by the Care Inspectorate, who report on how well the service is managed. If you would like information on the sheltered schemes currently being operated in Edinburgh please click here.
